The Duchesne River
The Duchesne River, located in the Uintah Basin region of Northeastern Utah, is a tributary of the Green River. The 80 miles (130 km) of the Duchesne River and its tributaries provide miles of fly and spin fishing opportunities. The river is split into three sections, North Fork, West Fork and the Duchesne. The West Fork and the Duchesne river are considered one of Utah's blue ribbon fisheries.
Sand Wash Reservoir
A wonderful place for fishing, relaxing, swimming, bon fires, boating, knee boarding, tubing, cliff jumping, and much more. Sand Wash is great for family and friends. Big Sandwash Reservoir is only 6.3 miles from the Altamont Motel! It is a small reservoir that is not widely used, so it is a great place to fish if you want to get away from the crowds. The main fish caught there is Rainbow trout. An occasional Brown is also spotted! After a day of fishing come back to your fresh, clean and quiet room at the Altamont motel.
Moon Lake

Come enjoy lake and stream fishing, sand beach, hiking and much, much more. Nestled among aspens and pines, Moon Lake is the largest lake in the High Uinta Wilderness and is about about 21miles from the Altamont Motel. The drive is beautiful and the road is paved the entire way.
Sleeping Lady Mountain
To many the mountain resembles the silhouette of a woman lying on her back. The legend tells of a Ute maiden who was known throughout the region for her beauty and kindness. Hearing of her great beauty, enemy Indians came to capture her. Upon seeing the enemy warriors, she fled to a high cliff and jumped to her death rather than be captured. Due to her bravery the Great Spirit sent the wind and rainstorms which carved the mountain into her likeness so she would be remembered by all who looked at the mountain.
Upper Country
Veterans' Memorial
A beautiful tribute to the veterans' in the Altamont area, the Veterans' Memorial is right in the middle of town The Upper Country Veterans' Memorial was dedicated on Veteran’s Day 2008. Five years later, American Legion Post 53 honored the area’s veterans by adding the life-size bronze soldier to the memorial.
Upper Stillwater
Enjoy the 32-mile scenic drive from Altamont Motel to the Upper Stillwater Dam. Upper Stillwater Reservoir is a large, high mountain reservoir on the south slope of the High Uintas (a sub-range of the Rocky Mountains) in Duchesne County, Utah. The reservoir is part of the Central Utah Project. The reservoir was created in 1987 by the construction of a concrete gravity dam (Upper Stillwater Dam). The architecture of the rolled concrete dam is an attraction for engineers. The reservoir elevation is 8,176 ft, and the mean depth is 103.5 ft. Available fish species include rainbow, brown, and brook trout”
